This week might not be too exciting to report about so I may have to add some news from the RTIP family.
We are working on a new database for the RTIP but the nicest feature will be the ability for our Symposium attendees to register for the conference online. We meet with the University of Arizona Foundation to work on details to manage a safe and secure way to deposit funds from the online registrants to our accounts at the Foundation.
We also continued meeting to develop themes and topics for the 39th annual Global Symposium on Racing & Gaming.
The most exciting RTIP news this week for me was to hear about the great adventure of one of the RTIP staff members, Denise, whose son was on an African Safari in Namibia. His was definitely more exciting than the usual activities here.
Of course, the summer orientation sessions continue so Wendy, the RTIP student advisor continues to see the new students visiting campus and helping them with the class schedules for their entrance into the department in the fall.
I was tempted to discuss more about last week's bad news for racing but I think it is a story worth following. How will the industry deal with the problem? Christine Janks' comments on the Paulick Report about those using dermorphin were great. I have to agree with most of what she said as well as add, I believe it may be a Federal crime given the interstate commerce involved in the wagering on the races.
