Vince Mares, Executive Director of the New Mexico Racing Commission, will be speaking in the Joe Hirsch Speaker Forum (ANS 497A) and in Advanced Animal Racing Laws and Enforcement (ANS 433). In 497A he will speak from his background in law enforcement when discussing challenges New Mexico racing has had. In 433 Mares will share "war stories" of what a racing commission really faces when regulating the sport.

Raj Mutti, Regional General Manager of British Columbia Racing at Great Canadian Gaming, will be speaking in Race Track Organization, Structure, and Financial Management (ANS 441) and in the Joe Hirsch Speaker Series (ANS 497A). In 441 he will speak on the perspective of the General Manager of a race track as well as some of the skills needed to be successful. In 497A he will share his career path and discuss many of the racing-related jobs he has held. All RTIP students are welcome to attend both classes.

Pete Selin Memorial Happy Minute
The sixth running of the Pete Selin Memorial Happy Minute will take place at Rillito Park in Tucson on Sunday, February 24, 2013. The race is named after the University of Arizona RTIP alumnus and turf writer who passed away on January 27, 2006, following a multi-year struggle with chronic leukemia. His RTIP classmates organized the race as a "fitting tribute to a one-of-a-kind friend and mentor who rarely missed a day of racing at Rillito Park or a Happy Minute at the Buffet Bar and Crock Pot."

Dr. Rick Arthur, Equine Medical Director for the California Horse Racing Board, will be speaking in Advanced Animal Racing Laws and Enforcement (ANS 497A). He will speak on his role as the Equine Medical Director of the California Horse Racing Board. All RTIP students are welcome to attend.

Eddie Arroyo, Illinois State Steward and a former jockey, will speak in Organization & Administration of the Racing Department (ANS 342) and the Joe Hirsch Speaker Forum (ANS 597A). In ANS 342 he will discuss the ways the racing office and stewards interact. In ANS 597A he will discuss changes he has seen in racing, comparing how things were when he rode to how they are now. All RTIP students are encouraged to attend both presentations.
