Welcome to the Student Blog!

Hello! My name is Taylor Kirby and I am an undergraduate in the Race Track Industry Program. Growing up in a smaller town in Arizona, there wasn’t much racing to be found. This blog will follow the life of a beginner in the industry and I hope that as I build my knowledge I can build yours too. I am excited for classes to start and to begin sharing my year with you.

Hey all! My name is Joe Dougherty and I am a second-year graduate student in the Race Track Industry Program. I have been a fan of thoroughbred racing for as long as I can remember. My grandfather would take my family and I on weekend excursions to nearby Delaware or Philadelphia Park, and the handicapping and wagering aspect of the sport instantly took me in. I have interned at Saratoga Racecourse and Parx Casino and Racing over the past few years, and hope to head back towards the Mid-Atlantic region after my graduation from the program this coming spring to be involved in the racing I grew up loving. I hope you enjoy the blog!

This past weekend, I was lucky enough to attend the 30th Breeders’ Cup World Thoroughbred Championships, hosted by Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, CA. The two-day event plays host to 14 championship races, and features the best of the best in racing, both equine and human. I had never...

We had our back to school party last Thursday at the Westin La Paloma. It was great to hang out with everyone outside of the typical classroom setting. On top of a delicious Mexican buffet we got to relax at the pool and compete in slide races. The winners won gift cards to Chipotle....

Well I have successfully survived my first few weeks back at the University of Arizona! This year seems to be starting off on a great note. On September 3rd the RTIP office threw a doughnut and coffee party where I got to meet a lot of new people and catch up with those that I have not seen...
